Composite and Porcelain Veneers

What are Dental Veneers?

Everyone’s teeth are unique and whilst some people are lucky enough to show off dazzlingly white, straight and perfect teeth, the majority of us have teeth with “character”. There is a way, however, that you can achieve a natural and healthy smile, albeit with a little bit of help from our dentists.

Dental veneers are custom-made casings that fit neatly over the natural tooth giving it a more uniform appearance and hiding any tooth defects.

Do You Need Veneers?

Veneers can restore chipped or damaged teeth

As a dental treatment, Veneers are used for a range of cosmetic reasons:

  • To disguise a chipped or broken tooth
  • To act as protection for weak, cracked or fractured teeth
  • To improve the appearance of discoloured teeth
  • To close small gaps in teeth
  • To help strengthen teeth that have undergone root canal surgery

Dental Veneers present a very simple solution to some of the most common problems experienced with teeth and the overall effect can transform your whole smile.

If you book a full dental checkup today, we can assess your suitability for veneers and check the health of your teeth and gums.

Composite Veneers or Porcelain Veneers?

Composite veneers are made out of white resin material that is customised for your teeth and can be tailored to the shade that you are looking for to give a natural result.

This type of dental veneer is usually used to fix small tooth imperfections like small chips or cracks in the teeth or as a conservative alternative to porcelain veneers. Composite veneers have the advantage and convenience of being made whilst you wait in the dentist’s chair.

Porcelain veneers require a little more preparation and customisation to hide more obvious defects and to give a natural look.

Dental Veneers — the Treatment Process

The first step is to take a mould of your teeth which is sent to our local Melbourne laboratory.

K1 Dental guarantees to only use a local laboratory to make customised veneers for our patients. It means you can meet the laboratory technician and ensure a close-to-perfect shade match and also to discuss your own requirements.

A wax mock-up of your new dental veneer is sent to K1 Dental so you can see a virtual 3D image of your teeth before and after having dental veneers fitted. This gives you a clear idea of how your teeth will look to ensure that you are happy with the outcome.

Treatment itself is a two-stage process. Firstly, we prepare the underlying tooth in anticipation of your new dental veneer, and take one impression of the prepared tooth for the lab. We then position a temporary veneer whilst your porcelain veneer is being made.

How long does it take to fit dental veneers?

Once your teeth have been examined and the veneer treatment plan fully explained, you will need two further appointments: one to fit the temporary dental veneers in place and another appointment around two weeks afterwards to fit the porcelain veneers in place.

Your new veneers will be checked with every dental examination and any revisions that may be required can usually be done right away with the minimum of fuss.

High-quality dental veneers can last 10 years or more; however, should there be any problems, we are open 7 days a week to care for you. Because your satisfaction is important to us, we make it a priority to resolve any concerns you may have.
